Jodie Foster comes out in Golden Globes speech: Watch video of the emotional thanks

jodie-foster-golden-globes-speech.jpgOn Sunday night at the Golden Globes ceremony, Jodie Foster finally came out of the closet. After accepting the extremely prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award, Foster publicly acknowledged her homosexuality for the first time by thanking her former partner.

Her speech did ramble a bit, but the general point of it was that after giving 47 years to the industry, she is entitled to her privacy -- and not interested in living her life in front of the public, reality-show style. "I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago in the stone age. Back in the days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers and then gradually proudly to everyone who knew her, to everyone she actually met. But now apparently every celebrity is expected to expose the details of their private life with a press conference, a fragrance and a reality show, she said.

Though she announced that she is currently single, she also gave a nod to her ex, Cydney Bernard.

"There is no way I could ever stand here without acknowledging one of the deepest loves of my life, my heroic co-parent, my ex-partner in love but righteous soul-sister in life, my confessor, ski buddy, conciliere, and BFF of 20 years, Cydney Bernard," she says. "Thank you, Cyd. I am so proud of our modern family, our amazing sons, Charlie and Kit, who are my reason to breathe and to evolve, my blood and soul. And boys, in case you didn't know it, this song, like all of this, this song is for you."

In addition to all of her colleagues through the years and her support team, Foster thanked her ailing mother profusely. "I love you, I love you, I love you," she said. "Please take that with you when you're finally okay to go."

As she began to wrap her speech, she reminded us of her 47 years in film. "I have given everything up there from the time when I was 3 years old. That's reality show enough, don' t you think?
