John Leguizamo gets another shot at ABC with family comedy pilot

john-leguizamo-gi.jpg John Leguizamo's last effort to get a show on ABC didn't work out -- the network passed on "The Kings of Van Nuys," a comedy he starred in, last season.

He's taking another shot with the network, though, this time with a show based on his own life.

Leguizamo will star in a pilot based loosely on his life as a husband and father living on Manhattan's affluent Upper West Side while trying to stay connected to his roots in the Bronx. Leguizamo also co-wrote the story for the pilot with Chris Sheridan ("Family Guy," "Titus").

Other pilot news:

- Kevin Pollak ("The Usual Suspects," "Shark") has joined the cast of CBS' "Beverly Hills Cop" series, which stars Brandon T. Jackson as the son of Axel Foley ( Eddie Murphy, who will appear in and is an executive producer of the pilot). He'll play the in-house counsel for the Beverly Hills PD, who is all about following procedure.

- CBS has ordered "Reckless," a legal drama from writer Dana Stevens ("What About Brian") and "Ghost Whisperer" EPs Kim Moses and Ian Sander. The show, set in Charleston, S.C., centers on the attraction between two attorneys on opposite sides of a case.

- Kate Simses ("What's Your Number") has joined the cast of ABC's comedy "Mixology." The show takes place in a bar over the course of a single night, following the activities of the staff and patrons. Simses will play a recently engaged woman who's starting to rethink her decision. [ Deadline]

- James Caan has officially signed on to another ABC comedy from writers Robb and Mark Cullen, who worked with Caan on "Las Vegas." He'll play a retired baseball player whose daughter and grandson move in with him.
