Jon Gosselin tells Oprah Winfrey why he's happier without Kate Gosselin
Jon Gosselin's post-reality TV life became a lot less private when it was revealed that he lives in a cabin in Pennsylvania and works as a waiter at two restaurants. But to hear him tell it, the former "Jon & Kate Plus 8" star is a heck of a lot happier now than he ever was in the spotlight.
"I'm happy. I'm free. I'm my own man. I can do what I want and I'm just doing the best I am," he says on "Oprah: Where Are They Now?"
His cabin lifestyle might be rustic, but Gosselin is doing his best to tell people that it makes him happy. The interview on the Oprah Winfrey show opens with him gathering wood for a bonfire to have with his children, who come to visit him on Tuesday nights for dinner and every other weekend from Friday through Sunday. He says they go fishing, camping and play outside, and since his house doesn't have Internet or cable, they are cut off from the rest of the world.
They also are cut off from their mother when they're with him. The children have separate sets of clothing at each of their parents' homes, and Jon says his ex-wife Kate Gosselin doesn't have a say in how he handles their kids.
"I don't really have a relationship with Kate. It's more texting, custodial stuff. I wish her the best in all that she does, but just moving in two different directions. Just totally not on the same page about anything," he admits. "At this point, there is no cooperation. There is no nothing."
Gosselin says that now that his children are older they don't understand why they're famous. He admits that they have problems developmentally with "manners" and "morals," and that's apparently a big part of why he decided to move to his woods oasis.
"It wasn't easy to quit because there's a revenue stream I'm never going to have again," he says, explaining that he needed to find his peace. Now that he seems to have it, Gosselin admits that there are some misconceptions about him that keep popping up. "The most common misperception that I cheated on my wife, that I left my family, that I'm a party boy. But my family knows the truth."
Do you believe Gosselin's take on his spin away from fame?
