Remember when Justin Bieber said a week ago that he is retiring? Many speculated whether or not the 19-year-old pop star meant his words, but Bieber took to Twitter on Christmas Eve to confirm the news.

He followed up that admission with a seeming explanation for his time off from work.

"The media talks a lot about me.They make a up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I'm never leaving you, being a belieber is a lifestyle," he tweets. "Be kind loving to each other, forgive each other as god forgave us through Christ Merry Christmas IM HERE FOREVER."

Fans already felt a gamut of emotions after the initial announcement, but maybe they shouldn't be so concerned. After the initial retirement comment on the radio, Bieber told USA Today, "I'm going to take my time (next year) to really find my sound as an adult. That takes time and patience, and I'm grateful I have the ability to step back and focus on my creativity."

Maybe this is more an Amanda Bynes type of retirement? But regardless of how long he's gone, fans are sure to miss him. Here's a look back at some of his best moments from 2013 (leaving out the bad ones):

No wonder Bieber needs a break! He's been pumping out new music and music videos for his Music Mondays ever since Oct. 2 in an effort to promote his new movie "Believe 3D," which came out on Christmas Day. The final one was released on Dec. 18.
