Justin Theroux to star in HBO pilot 'The Leftovers' from Damon Lindelof and Peter Berg

Peter Berg ("Friday Night Lights") is directing the pilot co-written by Lindelof ("Lost") and author Tom Perrotta ("Election"). The potential series is based on Perrotta's 2011 book which follows the people "leftover" after the Rapture happens, and didn't occur quite as expected.

Theroux takes on the role of police chief Kevin Garvey. Although the show would mark his first series regular stint since a brief run on CBS' "The District," Theroux is no stranger to HBO. He played two different guest roles in early seasons of "Sex and the City," was John Hancock in the miniseries "John Adams" and most notably had a major recurring role on Season 4 of "Six Feet Under."
