Kate Middleton's topless photos ordered by French court to be turned over immediately by Closer magazine

prince-william-kate-middleton-singapore-dance.jpgA French court has handed down a ruling regarding the topless photos of Kate Middleton sunbathing in a private residence published by Closer magazine, ordering the publisher to hand over all digital copies of the photographs and blocking further publication of them.

The magazine faces a daily fine of €10,000 (just over $13,000) until it hands over the pictures. The publication is also barred from distributing the photographs any further and was fined €2,000 for their publication in the first place.

It is certainly a victory for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, but publications in Ireland and Italy have been published the photos as well and the French court has no jurisdiction over those publications. Nor can the photos really be contained on the internet.

St. James Palace has said that a criminal complaint against the publication and the photographer has also been opened.
