MTV revealed on Monday (Aug. 12) that the pop star was set to perform her new single "Roar" during the Aug. 25 ceremony at Brooklyn's Barclays Center. This will be Perry's first time back at the show as a performer since 2009, when she took the stage with Aerosmith's Joe Perry to cover Queen's "We Will Rock You."

Perry's performance of "Roar" will be her first live performance of the song. The single, the lead track off upcoming album "PRISM," leaked early on Saturday, prompting the singer to quickly offer the song for sale on iTunes.

MTV's amassing an impressive stable of performers for this year's return to NYC. Beyond Perry, the network has announced that Lady Gaga, Kanye West and Miley Cyrus will all be in the house to perform their latest singles.

The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards airs live Sunday, Aug. 25 at 9 p.m. ET.
