Khloe Kardashian officially out as 'X Factor' host, Mario Lopez returning for Season 3
Kardashian's exit had been rumored since February -- and although we thought we had a few good ideas for replacement co-hosts -- FOX and the "X Factor" team including executive producer Simon Cowell might prefer seeing Lopez go solo.
Though far from a ratings bomb, Cowell's "X Factor" still hasn't quite found its groove in the U.S. A media blitz accompanied last season's flashy hirings of Kardashian and judge Britney Spears -- but neither one of them will be returning for Season 3.
Kardashian's single season stint was troubled from the start, with a controversial "wardrobe malfunction" during her first live show and criticisms about her lack of chemistry with Lopez and wooden demeanor plaguing her entire run.
Lopez joins Cowell and returning judge Demi Lovato as the only confirmed on camera talent for the new season, expected to premiere in the fall.
"I'm thrilled Mario is back," Cowell said in a statement. "Hosting a live show and keeping the judges -- especially Demi -- in line, is not an easy job, but Mario is a pro and we are glad he's coming back."
Although Kardashian's departure was not addressed in FOX's official press release, the "X Factor" producers released a separate statement confirming the decision: "Khloe Kardashian will not be returning to co-host 'The X Factor.' We really enjoyed working with her and wish her all the best in her future endeavors."
