'Killer Women': Tricia Helfer's 'Battlestar Galactica' fans will recognize a red dress

But, they thought, isn't Tricia Helfer supposed to be a Texas Ranger in this?

On "Battlestar," Helfer played the Cylon Number Six, known for iconic scenes in which she wore a red dress.

"I had somebody say to me that they just saw the trailer. They said, 'You were walking into a building, and you shot somebody.' I was like, 'Did you look a little closer? I'm two feet taller than she is, and I'm not a Latina.' "

But when there was some wild driving in the pilot, which aired Jan. 7, the woman behind the wheel was indeed Helfer -- most of the time, anyway.

"I did all the driving in the pilot," she says, "all the 180s. Yeah, that was me. I did going up over the embankment. They did have a stunt double to do the actual hit of the car, because insurance won't let me do that.

"So 98 percent of what you see in the pilot is me, and we're trying to continue that."

As for why she fits so well into these roles, the tall, athletic Helfer says, "There's a lot of me in that, I think. I grew up a tomboy, grew up on a farm, fixing tractors. I ride motorbikes, whatever. But I'm a huge softy.

"It's not to say that I don't love getting dressed up, too, but I'm mostly a jeans and T-shirt girl."
