Kit Harington has no idea about that Sad Jon Snow 'Game of Thrones' meme

If there are three things people need to know about the "Game of Thrones" character Jon Snow, it's that he's a bastard, he knows nothing and it's near impossible to find him with a smile on his face. Viewers of the HBO fantasy series took note of that latter aspect early on in the show's run, and a cute "Sad Jon Snow" meme has grown out of it.

Most Internet users are aware of memes, and many "Game of Thrones" fans have likely seen this one. Actor Kit Harington, on the other hand, is totally clueless to both.

During an interview with Zap2it while promoting his new movie "Pompeii," Harington mentions that he has had some "grumpy" facial expressions while filming in freezing Iceland, but clarifies that he's "loving" shooting on location. Was the "grumpy" comment a nod to the fact that the Internet loves turning his sad face into a meme? Not quite.

"What's a meme?" Harington asks us.

After a brief moment trying to explain that a meme is like an Internet inside joke that uses pictures, Harington catches on and starts laughing.

"You don't have to look far for a sad Jon Snow picture," he chuckles. "You'd have to look quite far for a happy one. That would be the real gem."

As it turns out, Jon actually did crack a couple smiles thanks to his romance with Ygritte (Rose Leslie) in Season 3. That didn't last long, though, as the pair parted ways on some pretty horrible terms at the end of the season.

Of that love story, Harington does remember the happy scene, but then notes, "And then it all gets destroyed." As with all good things on "Game of Thrones." No wonder Jon Snow is so sad.
