Kristen Wiig and Tobey Maguire join Will Ferrell's IFC miniseries

Kristen Wiig and Tobey Maguire will star with Ferrell in the six-episode series, Deadline reports. "The Spoils of Babylon" is a sendup of classic miniseries a la "North and South" and "The Thorn Birds" and tells the generations-spanning story of a wealthy family in the oil business.

Ferrell plays two roles in the show: the author of the fake novel on which the miniseries is based and the shah of Iran, who becomes involved in shady dealings with the family. Wiig, who co-stars with Ferrell in "Anchorman 2," will play the daughter of an oil baron who comes to run the business with her adoptive brother (Maguire), for whom she also has romantic feelings.

"The Spoils of Babylon," which Ferrell called "a crazy and maybe even a stupid idea" when IFC announced its pickup in March, is scheduled to premiere late this year on IFC. Ferrell and Adam McKay are executive producing the show with writers Matt Piedmont (who also directs) and Andrew Steele.

What do you think of the casting, and the miniseries-spoof idea in general?
