'Lady Gaga and the Muppets' live blog, GIFs - join our holiday spectacular
In addition to Lady Gaga, the special is welcoming guests Sir Elton John, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, RuPaul and Kristen Bell. It's going to be amazing. So join us here starting at 9:30 p.m. ET for a live blog -- all the sketches, songs and GIFs. We can hardly wait.
All times Eastern.
9:30 -- It's here! Pepe the prawn is welcoming us to "Pepe's Holiday on Shaved Ice Television Spectacular." We would totally watch that.
9:33 -- The opening number is Rocket Number Nine Take off for the Planet Venus by Sun Ra, which ... if we had had to guess the opening song for this, we literally never would've guessed that song if we had until the end of time. But this psychedelic trip opening is everything we were hoping for.
9:36 -- Hi, Kristen Bell! Love you. And a Lady Gaga-Miss Piggy rivalry is outstanding.
9:38 -- Gonzo's favorite holiday memory is putting tapioca in his shorts and sliding down the chimney. Of course it is. What else do you expect from a Weirdo?
9:44 -- "Applause" time. Doesn't Gaga remind you of the Talking Heads at the beginning of this performance? That's what she makes me think of. Also, she's showing a lot of boob for a Muppets special. No wonder this started at 9:30 p.m.
9:52 -- Elton John time. Love Gaga's pop-can top glasses. "Benny and the Jets," outstanding. Elton John's catalog is so terrific. Can you imagine just hanging out with the two of them while they play the piano and goof around? How cool.
9:56 -- "ARTPOP" time. This is definitely a weird one, but Gaga's stuff is still pretty catchy even when it's weird.
10:05 -- "A banjo and a log" is definitely not Gaga enough. Though if she learned to play the banjo, that would be amazing.
10:06 -- "Manicure" is a fine song, but what in god's name is she wearing for this number? Thigh-high boots, no pants, a flannel and some crazy bug-eye glasses. She looks like if Emma Thompson's Professional Trelawney had a coke problem or something.
10:12 -- Love the unintelligible Muppets singing. Reminds us of the classic "SNL" sketch where Tonto, Tarzan and Frankenstein's monster sing Christmas carols. Heh.
10:17 -- Kermit and Lady Gaga intro her song "Gypsy," which is about feeling lonely and alone while on the road. It's maybe my favorite song off "ARTPOP," it's beautiful. Does Gaga ever remind you of Joni Mitchell on stuff like this? Or Carole King? That's who she is reminiscent of for me, on her slower stuff sometimes.
10:26 -- It's awesome that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Gaga reversed the gender roles for this song, since it has such iffy undertones when performed the normal way. Seriously, it's a little creepy -- "baby, what's in this drink?" Are you kidding?
10:28 -- Also, I'm not much of a champion of remakes, but you know who I think would absolutely kill a remake of "Singin' in the Rain"? JGL and Timberlake. We already know JGL can totally handle "Make 'Em Laugh."
10:30 -- Jazz hands!
10:38 -- It's "Fashion" time with RuPaul. Delightful. I demand every Thanksgiving from here on out include some kind of drag queen performance.
10:47 -- "Santa Baby" sung by a pig. As if this song wasn't already disturbing enough as it is.
10:55 -- A big finale with all the Muppets to Gaga's "Applause." Woooo!
10:59 -- The outtakes were hysterical. Nothing like a perverted prawn.
Did you enjoy the "Lady Gaga and the Muppets' Holiday Spectacular"?
