Leah Remini's departure from the Church of Scientology made waves when it happened, especially since she had been such an outspoken supporter of the religion in the past. The former "King of Queens" star has remained relatively quiet about her reasons for leaving, but recently opened up Ellen DeGeneres about why she was involved in Scientology to begin with and the response from the community when she left.

"My mother got involved when we were really young so it's all we really knew, but over time my eyes opened, and I just could no longer be affiliated with the organization, and my family felt the same, so we left," Remini explains.

Many of the Reminis' family friends who are in Scientology have had to cut ties to them since the Reminis left the Church.

"It's hard. We have lost friends that can no longer talk to us," she says. "And these are friends that we've had for dozens of years. But I have great friends, other friends that are not in the Church, that have stood by us, and our family is stronger, we're together, and that's all I could ask for."
