Liv Tyler joins Damon Lindelof's 'The Leftovers' pilot at HBO

"Lord of the Rings" star liv-tyler-2013.jpgLiv Tyler is set to take her first series regular role in the HBO drama pilot "The Leftovers" from former "Lost" mastermind Damon Lindelof.

Tyler joins leading man Justin Theroux in the pilot directed by Peter Berg and co-written by Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, based on Perrotta's 2011 novel.

The story is set after the Rapture happens with unexpected results. Deadline reports Tyler will play Meg, a young woman who ditches her fiance and becomes the target of an "enigmatic cult."

The cast also includes former "Doctor Who" Christopher Eccleston, Tony nominee Carrie Coon, Amanda Warren and Ann Dowd ("Compliance," "Side Effects") as a leader in the cult-like organization.
