Louis C.K. returns to HBO for stand-up special

The new special will be taped during C.K.'s current tour, which is playing 16 sold-out venues and runs through February. There's no airdate set.

"I'm delighted to welcome the gifted Louis C.K. back to HBO," HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo says. "This comic genius remains one of the freshest voices on the scene, and HBO is proud to provide an uncensored forum for his provocative humor."

C.K. has a long history with HBO dating back to an appearance on the 1995 "Young Comedians Special." He's also done another long-form special for the channel ("Louis C.K.: Shameless") and been featured on the "Half-Hour Comedy Hour" and "One-Night Stand." Additionally, he was a writer for "The Chris Rock Show" and created and starred in the one-season comedy series "Lucky Louie."

He's coming off a pair of Emmy wins -- one for his FX series "Louie" and one for his special "Live at the Beacon Theatre." "Louie" will return to FX in 2014 after a longer-than-usual hiatus.
