Louis C.K.'s movie 'Tomorrow Night' released; Jon Stewart recalls giving $5000 to the project
Louis C.K. made a movie in 1998 called "Tomorrow Night" that was shown at the time at Sundance and several other film festivals but never got any kind of wide release. C.K. has decided to release the film on his website this week, so check out LouisCK.com to buy it Wednesday (Jan. 29) for five dollars.
The flick stars a lot of guys who were friends of C.K.'s at the time but not big names (then) -- Steve Carell, J.B. Smoove, Wanda Sykes, Robert Smigel and more. In the above interview on "The Daily Show," C.K. shows a clip of the movie and admits that it's a little weird.
"It's a little hard to watch now 'cause it's crazy. The whole movie's like [the clip], nothing makes much sense. But the performances are great," says C.K.
Host Jon Stewart chimes in with how he helped contribute to the movie's backing fund, saying that C.K. pitched it to him as this: "'It's about a guy who gets sexual gratification from sitting in a bowl of ice cream ... so I need $5000.' And I remember I asked you, 'What flavor?'"
C.K. also writes in an email promoting the release:
I'm putting it on my website with the hopes that I can continue this way of distributing stuff. I'd also like to pay back some of the people who helped me finance the film. I'd also like people to finally see it so that the performances can be awarded with applause and laughter. I'd also like to make a profit from it so I can use the proceeds to make a new movie and release that on my website as well. Wouldn't that be something? OK, so buy it tomorrow. And tell your friends to do it also. Or don't. It's really only partially up to me what you do with your time and money.
In addition to "Tomorrow Night," C.K. promotes the first special that his website funded and produced. It features comedian Todd Barry, who did a whole stand-up tour where instead of telling jokes, he just interacted and spoke with the audience members for an hour at each stop.
