Louis Tominson cancels Doncaster Rovers pro soccer debut

"I'm really sorry I can't play," Louis tweeted. "I'm gutted." Tomlinson will still appear at the game and warm the bench, but thousands of fans are being offered refunds for the match which was to benefit a local charity, the Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

The Rovers announced in August they had snagged the 1D star as a non-contract player after his stellar performance in a prior charity match. But Tomlinson is now nursing a leg injury he suffered in a more recent charity exhibition game.

Louis says he will play at another Rovers match in 2014, and fans who don't seek refunds for his canceled appearance will receive a deep discount on the next one.

The Rovers issued a statement on their website that says, "Unfortunately due to injury Louis will not be able to play in this week's Rovers Central League game against Scunthorpe United. Louis will still be attending the match on the bench."
