Mariano Rivera helps the American League win the 2013 MLB All-Star Game

The American League won the first seven ASGs since the changed started, then the National League won three in a row.

But the NL streak was snapped Tuesday night (July 16) when the AL won 3-0, aided by shut-out innings at the end of the game by hall-of-fame closers Mariano Rivera and Joe Nathan.

Rivera, 43, has played in 13 All-Star Games in his 19-season career and his retiring after the 2013 season, so when he took the field in the eighth inning, no other all-stars took the field until he had had his moment to come in from the ASG bullpen one last time. He later said the moment was "priceless."
