In a press release, Disney says that production of "Daredevil," "Jessica Jones," "Iron Fist" and "Luke Cage" will take place in New York City as part of an incentive that will create hundreds of new jobs and millions of dollars in revenue. It also brings Marvel's "flawed heroes of Hell's Kitchen" to their home turf.

The press release reads: "Filming is set to begin in summer 2014 and will create at least three thousand jobs in New York State including up to 400 full time jobs. The project will include nearly 60 one-hour episodes focused on the four Defenders characters: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist."

The first Netflix-Marvel series, "Daredevil," is slated to premiere on the streaming service in 2015. Following it will be "Jessica Jones," "Iron Fist" and "Luke Cage," before culminating in an "Avengers"-style "The Defenders" miniseries event. Each of the four series will consist of eight one-hour episodes, with "The Defenders" running an additional four to eight episodes.

"The Defenders are classic New York characters; smart, resourceful and tough enough to always stand up for what's right," Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer, says in a statement. "We're delighted they're coming to life on their home turf thanks to Governor [Andrew] Cuomo and his team."
