Matthew McConaughey's 30-pound weight loss for AIDS role

matthew-mcconaughey-weight-loss-dallas-buyers-club.jpg Matthew McConaughey recently went on a high-protein diet and worked out relentlessly to get buffed for "Magic Mike." Now he's going the other way for his role as a man with AIDS in "The Dallas Buyer's Club." The large picture above is from mid-August and the inset is from Sept. 21. We would imagine he's even more gaunt by now.

Back in July, McConaughey told Larry King on his web series (video below), "I should not look healthy by the time I'm doing this ... It takes a while for your body to understand that it has to feed off of itself and that you're not going to give it something else from the outside."

Set in 1986, "The Dallas Buyer's Club" tells the story of electrician Ron Woodroof (McConaughey), who is told there is pretty much no hope once he contracts AIDS, so he sets out to explore HIV drugs not approved for use in the U.S. in an effort to prolong his life. It is scheduled for a 2013 release.
