Michael C. Hall talks 'Dexter' endgame: Could series go beyond 8 seasons?
"That's the likely scenario," Showtime entertainment president David Nevins told reporters at the TCA press tour. "I'm not making any announcements today, but plans can always change. I think everything has gotten rewired this year in a very interesting way, given that Deb [ Jennifer Carpenter] has to deal with who her brother is. We'll see where that carries us."
But is Michael C. Hall, the serial killer drama's Emmy-winning star, willing to be carried that far?
"It's difficult in the midst of shooting this seventh season -- with some sort of at least vague sense that the final episode of the eighth will be the last -- to imagine it going beyond that," Hall said.
"But you know, we finished the first season and I thought we should probably just stop -- what are we going to do now?
"I would never say never, but I think the sense is that we're moving towards a definitive end."
"Dexter's" seventh season premieres Sunday, Sept. 30 on Showtime.
