Miss America fat? Bikini pictures force Mallory Hytes Hagan to respond to haters
After wowing the 2013 Miss America pageant judges with her swimwear physique, detractors dissed Hagan for appearing to have put on a few pounds since the competition.
Mallory went straight to "Anderson Live" to answer to the insults, reminding haters that life is not a beauty pageant. "I think that I'm human," says Hagan. "I like to equate getting ready for the Miss America pageant as kind of like getting ready for a little boxing match. We get in shape and then afterwards, life goes back to normal."
Hagan also cites the busy schedule her position demands as a reason she looks like a regular 24-year-old woman in a bikini. "I think a lot of people don't realize just how much Miss America travels," she says. "I travel on average 20,000 miles a month. Every 48 hours I'm in a different place, just about. So it's really a challenge to maintain that same body that I went to Miss America with."
Mallory is quick to point out she doesn't gorge herself once a pageant ends, and says, "It's also about being healthy. We're all about living a healthy lifestyle, and some days you want to eat potatoes, and some days you don't."
Lest anyone forget that Miss America is a position filled by a real live woman and not a Barbie doll, Mallory tells it like it is. "I struggle with it just like every young woman does," she says. "I think it's something we all strive to be better at, but I'm real."
Way to keep it real, Mallory. Now can we let this beautiful young woman go back to talking about her platform of preventing the sexual abuse of children, rather than her cellulite?
