'Modern Family' and 'Fringe' lead DVR ratings for 2011-12

modern-family-most-dvrd.jpgTwo-plus weeks removed from the official end of the 2011-12 TV season, we have the final DVR ratings for the year -- and "Modern Family" is far and away the season's most-recorded show.

The ABC comedy gained close to 4.8 million viewers per episode in the Live +7 ratings, bumping its already strong numbers (11.95 million viewers) up to even greater heights (16.7 million). It was also the biggest gainer in the adults 18-49 demographic, going from a 5.0 rating to a 7.4, which makes it the top scripted show on TV in the demo.

(Live +7 ratings track only original episodes of shows that air in their regularly scheduled time period, so totals here will vary some from the complete season averages, which also take reruns into account.)

CBS and ABC own the Top 10 in viewer gains. "Grey's Anatomy" and "Castle" join "Modern Family" from the Alphabet, while the other seven shows are all CBS -- six crime dramas and "The Big Bang Theory." The top of the 18-49 list is a little more diverse, with FOX's "New Girl" and NBC's "The Office" cracking the first 10.

"Fringe" and "Grimm" gained the highest percentage of total viewers and adults 18-49, respectively, but they were also starting from much lower numbers. "Fringe" added 55.3 percent to its viewer totals, growing from a little less than 3.1 million viewers in same-day ratings to 4.8 million in the Live +7. "Grimm's" 18-49 grew by more than 70 percent thanks to DVR viewing, going from an OK-for-Friday nights 1.5 to a respectable 2.6. (You can see more of the top percentage gainers in our photo gallery of the most DVR'd shows.)
