Critical darling or not, Disney/Pixar's "Monsters University" is a definite hit. The "Monsters Inc." prequel crossed the $700 million worldwide gross line, Thursday (August 29). With that much, it becomes the fourth highest-earning movie of 2013, THR reports.
"Monsters University" also holds the distinction of being the fought highest-earning Disney/Pixar film ever, behind "Toy Story 3," "Finding Nemo" and "Up." Before completing its theater run, the movie still has to open in Korea.
The top movie of the year so far is "Iron Man 3," with a worldwide tally of $1.2 billion. After that are "Despicable Me 2" and "Fast & Furious 6." There's still several highly-anticipated movies releasing before the end of the year, including "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and "Ender's Game." There's also another Marvel movie, "Thor: The Dark World," which is bound to make a ton of money.
