Antonelli crashed during the opening lap and was struck by another rider. The weather at the time of the race was rainy, but there's no word yet as to whether that was the cause of Antonelli's crash.

FIM says in a release that Antonelli "was immediately taken to an ambulance where the medical staff worked to resuscitate him. Despite their efforts, Andrea sadly succumbed to his injuries at 2:10 p.m. local time."

The race was canceled after the crash.
