MTV cancels 'Skins'; Season 2 not happening
"'Skins' is a global television phenomenon that, unfortunately, didn't connect with a US audience as much as we had hoped," the network says in a statement. "We admire the work that the series' creator Bryan Elsley did in adapting the show for MTV, and appreciate the core audience that embraced it."
"Skins" premiered to 3.3 million viewers, but lost half of that audience in its second episode. The series' ratings continued to decline until the finale approached, when it did see some upward movement in the numbers. The finale was viewed by 1.2 million viewers.
The ratings are consistent with "Teen Wolf" and "The Hard Times of RJ Berger," the other scripted MTV shows. However, "Skins" is less valuable to the network because of its MA rating, which prevents it from being aired throughout the day in repeat viewings, as most MTV shows are.
