NBC planning another live musical after 'Sound of Music' success

stephen-moyer-carrie-underwood-sound-of-music-live.jpgThe hills are alive with the sound of more live music coming to NBC. After the huge ratings "Sound of Music Live" drew, Robert Greenblatt, chairman of NBC's entertainment division, tells the New York Times that they're already planning another one for next year.

The live production for the 2014 holiday season will again be led by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan, who executive produced "Sound of Music." Greenblatt says the three of them are "circling a couple of titles" that are family-friendly Broadway classics.

"Rights holders of musicals have said, 'Please do one of our shows,'" says Greenblatt. "We're excited to try it again.

"There's enough to do a handful of these over the next few years if we keep increasing the learning curve," Grenblatt adds. "There may be a little bit of a phenomenon to the first one of these. Who knows what happens year two, three or four. But you've got to have events. I think we could do this again -- and again and again."

Zap2it is on board -- we've already pitched several ideas. "Oklahoma," anyone?
