Nene Leakes appeared on "Live with Kelly and Michael" on Wednesday (Dec. 4) and talked about the life-threatening blood clots she dealt with just a few weeks earlier. It seems that the "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star is lucky to be alive.

"I got really sick," Leakes explained when asked why she had had to cancel her "Live" appearance in November. "Just one night I started feeling a pain under my breast and in my back, and then it moved to my shoulder. Greg kept saying, 'You got gas.' And I was like, 'I do not have gas. Not in my shoulder and under my breast.'

When the pain got worse, only the hospital was a viable option -- even if Leakes knew that the press would soon get hold of the story that way. "It was so excruciating," she said. "I went to the emergency room, and I have pulmonary embolisms, which are blood clots on your lungs. It was from flying; I fly a lot."

Although still on medication to thin her blood, Leakes is now home and getting ready to celebrate the holiday season. "I'm a holiday girl, to be honest. I really love the holidays!" she said. Not only is Leakes looking forward to her birthday next week, but she just finished hosting a party of 30 for Thanksgiving.

It seems as though the "Real Housewives" and "Glee" star is indeed improving.
