New 2013 Westminster breeds include Russell terrier and Walker coonhound

The Russell terrier is often referred to as the Jack Russell terrier, which is a reference to the Reverend Jack Russell, a hunting enthusiast and dog breeder. But the proper name is the Russell terrier and that little fella will now be represented at Westminster. Its brother, the Parson Russell terrier, which is taller and has a more square-shaped body, is already a part of the show.

The treeing Walker coonhound is a hunter and is so named because of the way it chases raccoons up trees.

The 137th Westminster dog show will take place over two days on Feb. 11 and 12. This year the event will be held not only at Madison Square Garden but also at New York's Piers 92 and 94 along the Hudson River. There will be over 2700 dogs there representing 187 different breeds. Fans who can't make it to New York will be able to watch the action on CNBC and USA.

"One of the greatest things about the show is that it's accessible to everybody," says Westminster Kennel Club President Sean McCarthy. "If you have a small terrier or a mastiff, everyone can come and enjoy it."
