NFL fines Tom Brady for dirty slide-kick against Ed Reed

tom-brady-fined-slide-kick-ed-reed-patriots-ravens.jpgThe NFL has slapped Tom Brady with a $10,000 fine, and rightfully so, for the punk move he pulled on Baltimore Ravens safety Ed Reed during the New England Patriots' losing quest for a Super Bowl XLVII berth.

You could probably hear your neighbors yelling when Brady got away with his combination slide and intentional kick toward Reed near the end of the first half of the AFC championship game.

For the record, the kick landed on Reed's leg, though it appears to have come awfully close to a much more sensitive area of his body. Ouch.

Alas, even though the refs looked the other way, the NFL didn't. It was reported yesterday the league was reviewing the play that many, who apparently don't have eyeballs, defended as an "accident." Now NFL.com reports news of the monetary fine.

Reed says Brady reached out to him to apologize and admits his leg was a little sore the next day. His teammate Bernard Pollard was a little more hot around the collar but eventually acquiesced, saying, "Hopefully the NFL will do something about it. If they don't, that's fine. If they do, then that's fine."

And it is fine -- a big, fat $10,000 fine. That may be pocket change compared to Brady's nearly $10 million per year salary, but it's all about the principle, right? Because even if you're Tom Brady, you can't get away with playing dirty -- not this time, anyway.

For those who missed the game, or may somehow be in doubt about whether Brady intended to kick Reed, you can watch his super lame move from multiple angles, and in slow-mo, on the video below.
