'Once Upon a Time's' Kristin Bauer: Maleficent, Evil Queen are 'frenemies'

kristin-bauer-once-upon-a-t.jpg"True Blood's" Kristin Bauer is stepping into a magical world of a different sort on Sunday night (Oct. 30) when she guest stars on "Once Upon a Time" as the evil Maleficent. She tells Zap2it it's just a glimpse into the long history between her character and the Evil Queen ( Lana Parrilla).

Our first question for Kristin was whether Maleficent is working with the Evil Queen or against her - and we kinda hit the nail on the head.

"That is exactly what we're going to find out. That's totally the question," laughs Bauer. "I was utterly fascinated by these powerful people - how they at times work together when their purposes align and at times play a real chess game of how to get out of the other what they want. And then what happens when it doesn't go well and then maybe they align forces again against a greater evil. It's a fascinating world."

We have a theory that perhaps in fairytale world, the Evil Queen and Maleficent are perhaps related. A little evil sibling rivalry. Bauer says we don't yet know, but this episode provides a sneak peek into their history.

"We get a little glimpse into the long-standing relationship, friendship, frenemies. The feeling I got between the two of us was this is a very interesting relationship," says Bauer. "In the pilot, we see that the Evil Queen is the top of the heap and all of a sudden we meet her frenemy. You get a real glimpse into a long relationship."

Maleficent has yet to be revealed in the town of Storybrooke, though.

"I've been imagining who she would be. With these writers, it'll be something interesting, like a gardener, the town hairdresser, something totally unexpected," Bauer says.

When we say maybe the town seamstress, since "Sleeping Beauty" featured all the spinning wheels, Bauer laughs, "That's good! Right?! That is so good!"

Hopefully they'll have Bauer return so we can find out. She hopes so as well.

"I can only hope to come back because I love the concept of this show. I had so much fun playing with Lana. This is her world that I've stepped into and she was so helpful. She's really fabulous," says Bauer.

"Once Upon a Time" airs Sunday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
