One Direction's Liam Payne tweets support for 'Duck Dynasty' family

liam-payne-duck-dynasty-willie-robertson-one-direction-gi.jpgThe members of One Direction have very vocally supported their gay fans over the years, but many of those same fans are now upset at the words of support Liam Payne tweeted to Willie Robertson of "Duck Dynasty."

Robertson's dad  Phil Robertson came under fire for making homophobic comments that were reported in GQ magazine, spawning boycotts of the show and his temporary suspension from the A&E hit.

"Huge love to you/your family huge respect for your business prosperities and the family values you still all behold. big fan," Payne writes to Willie Robertson on Twitter.

But after the near-immediate backlash began, he had to tweet a mea culpa. "Being a fan of someones show and the way they still hold a family together doesnt mean i am ok with all they say," writes Payne.

Many 1D fans have expressed their dismay at Payne's comments and say it completely changes the way they feel about the band. What do you think?

UPDATE: A few hours after Payne's first tweets, he went on a Twitter rant against the journalists who picked up his initial Tweet. You'll have to visit his Twitter page for the full thing, but here are a few selections:
