Oprah Winfrey says OWN was a mistake
Oprah Winfrey admitted on "CBS This Morning" Monday (April 2) to co-hosts Charlie Rose and best friend Gayle King that she made some big mistakes with her OWN cable channel. The network has been struggling with ratings and recently had to fire a large chunk of its staff.
"Had I known that it was this difficult, I might have done something else," she says. "I didn't think it was going to be easy, but If I knew then what I know now, I might have made some different choices."
She goes on to say that if she were writing a book about the experience, she could call it "101 Mistakes." Among the list, she says, was launching before OWN was ready.
"It's like having the wedding when you know you're not ready," Oprah says. "Now it's really Monday morning quarterbacking."
As far as negative press she's been receiving, Oprah says she learned from Steven Spielberg not to read it -- or at least not believe it -- because if you believe the good things the media says about you, then you also have to believe the unflattering. But one recent headline did get to her: USA Today's "Oprah not quite standing on her OWN."
