Though you wouldn't know it following his Twitter account, retired boxer Oscar De La Hoya has been in a California rehab facility for much of May.

TMZ reports the 38-year-old is seeking help for substance abuse, though the De La Hoya camp remains mum on exactly what that entails.

"After doing an honest evaluation of myself, I recognize that there are certain issues that I need to work on," De La Hoya says in a statement to TMZ. "Like everyone, I have my flaws, and I do not want to be one of those people that is afraid to admit and address those flaws."

De La Hoya is also trying to mitigate the media attention of his announcement, asking for "respect and privacy as my family and I go through this process." But if that's what he wants, he may want to cool it on the tweeting.

The New York Post points to May 19, when De La Hoya retweeted a photo and testimonial about Tres Generaciones tequila, a brand he's helped promote.

Probably not the best time for booze endorsements.
