The 30-year-old Steenkamp was shot four times at Pistorius' home Thursday morning.

When prosecutors declared in court they would pursue a charge of premeditated murder against the runner, Pistorius began crying into his hands. CBS News reports that Pistorius' father tried to comfort him as the official murder charge was read, while other families also cried in court.

After the hearing, Pistorius' family released a statement:

"The alleged murder is disputed in the strongest terms ... [Pistorius] wants to send his deepest sympathies to the family of Reeva. He would also like to express his t hanks through us today for all the messages of support he has received -- but as stated, our thoughts and prayers should be for Reeva and her family -- regardless of the circumstances of this terrible, terrible tragedy."

Pistorius' bail hearing is set for next Tuesday, Feb. 19. He will be held at a police station in Pretoria, South Africa until then. TMZ is reporting that Pistorius was moved from the Boschkop Jail to the Brooklyn Police Station in Pretoria due to his handicap needs.

An autopsy is being conducted on Steenkamp's body, but the results of that autopsy will not be published, according to Lt. Col. Katlego Mogale.
