'Outlander's' Diana Gabaldon and 'Game of Thrones' George R.R. Martin are breakfast buddies

diana-gabaldon-george-rr-martin-breakfast-getty.jpgIt is a unique thing to be the author of a current, on-going series of books that are suddenly being made into epic television programs. Such is the case with "Outlander" author Diana Gabaldon and "Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin.

While Martin's journey with HBO adapting his fantasy series has been going on for several years now, it's a new experience for Gabaldon, whose books are only just starting to be filmed for Starz, so she has turned to her fellow author for advice.

"I know George Martin, I have breakfast in Santa Fe with him once a month because at this point in time, he and I are the only ones in this particular situation," Gabaldon said at a recent fan event.

She also revealed in a guest blog for the Nook website just what she likes so much about Martin:

1. He's a romantic
2. The Tower of Books at his house
3. The completeness of his imagination
4. His generosity of spirit
5. That he's an honest-to-goodness good writer.

Readers, are you "Game of Thrones" fans? Have you given "Outlander" a try? Or perhaps it's the other way around. They are both excellent book series, if you haven't sunk your teeth into either one just yet.

"Outlander" premieres summer 2014 on Starz and "Game of Thrones" returns to HBO on Sunday, April 6.
