Paget Brewster leaving 'Criminal Minds' (for real this time)

pagetbrewster_criminalminds_290.jpgAnother cast shakeup is hitting "Criminal Minds," but this time it's not due to strange, higher-up decisions that make no sense. Paget Brewster has decided to leave the CBS series after seven seasons.

The powers that be decided to reduce Brewster's role at the end of Season 5 and eliminate her costar A.J. Cook altogether. But because of outcry from the passionate "Criminal Minds" fanbase, Cook's character came back at the end of Season 6 and Brewster didn't really leave after all.

According to Deadline, though, Brewster wants to get back into half-hour comedies, so instead of staying on the show with a new contract, she's decided to make Season 7 her last.

"After six wonderful years playing Emily Prentiss, I have decided it's time for me to move on," Brewster tells Deadline. "As much as I will miss my 'Criminal Minds' family, I am excited about the future and other opportunities."

"Criminal Minds" showrunner Erica Messer says, "We were all sad to hear the news, but we respect and support any decision Paget wants to make. Personally, I'm a huge fan and will continue to be one wherever she goes"
