'Paranormal Activity''s popularity may have sparked 'Blair Witch 3'

The success of "Paranormal Activity" may have just jumpstarted the making of "Blair Witch 3."

Or so say our friends at AICN. According to the fan site, a Canadian publication chatted with "The Blair Witch Project"'s co-director/co-writer Eduardo Sanchez about the possibilities of a new installment now that Paranormal has given the video genre another pat on the back with huge returns for such little production money.

Sanchez said the next installment would pick up where the original left off, pretending "Blair Witch 2" didn't occur. Sanchez admits he has a new treatment which would include original cast members in it.

"We're at the step where we're about to pitch to Lionsgate...it's pretty much up to them. They can completely squash it or greenlight it," Sanchez said.

"Paranormal Activity" employed a similar handheld-camera style to "Witch" -- but Sanchez says that style is now commonplace. He's opting for a "mixed first-person" technique this time, similar to Oren Peli's "District 9" documentary-style-film-turned-conventional-thriller.

What do you think? Can the "found video" genre be kicked up another notch or is it time to move on to something else?
