UPDATE: According to Randy Travis' reps, he has not undergone heart surgery as previously reported. He is instead being treated for viral cardiomyopathy, and underwent a placement of an IMPELLA peripheral left ventricular assist device before being moved to a new hospital. He remains in critical condition, but released a statement saying, "We are very thankful to the fans for their love and support during this time."

Randy Travis was hospitalized Sunday (July 7), suffering from complications from viral cardiomyopathy (a weakening of the heart muscles due to infection). Monday, Travis underwent surgery in the Texas hospital where he was admitted.

"We have been told he has had surgery. Our prayers are going out to him because my husband just had a heart attack last year, so it is in their family," Teresa Traywick, the wife of Randy's brother Ricky Traywick, tells People.

"Their mother passed away at an early age with her heart, so it is like these boys are following right in their footsteps. My prayers are with them. That's all I can say right now," Teresa continues.

Travis' upcoming shows have been canceled. Prior to the hospitalization, he had been back out on tour after a stint in rehab, following several alcohol-related incidents
