'Real Housewives of NJ' stars Joe and Teresa Giudice plead not guilty to fraud charges
Teresa Giudice and her husband Joe both pleaded not guilty to the 39 charges of fraud leveled against them. The "Real Housewives of New Jersey" couple remained silent as their respective attorneys read off their pleas.
The five-minute court proceeding was held in Newark, N.J. Judge Esther Salas set a trial date for Oct. 8.
If the Giudices are found guilty of the 39-count indictment, they could face more than 50 years in prison. The charges against them include claims that they massively defrauded the IRS and several banks between the years 2001 and 2008. The Giudices are said to have illegally obtained mortgages and loans by intentionally overestimating their incomes, while Joe also failed to file income tax returns from 2004 to 2008.
