Rep. Anthony Weiner seeks professional treatment, requests leave of absence

anthony-weiner-looking-down-getty.jpgRepresentative Anthony Weiner has requested a leave of absence from the U.S. House of Representatives while he gets professional treatment to focus on "becoming a better husband and healthier person," a spokeswoman for the congressman tells the AP.

Spokeswoman Risa Heller says Weiner wants a leave of absence so he can be evaluated and work out a course of treatment, though the statement does not specify what Weiner will be treated for.

This has all stemmed from a lewd photo of Congressman Weiner sent to a 21-year-old woman via Twitter, subsequent "sexts" and sexual Facebook messages. Weiner initially claimed his Twitter account was hacked, but has since recanted that. It has also come to light that his wife Huma Abedin is pregnant with the couple's first child.

The Facebook message content was not generally released in news outlets because it was too salacious to print, but Friday night (June 10) on "Real Time with Bill Maher," the statements were read in a dramatic reenactment by Bill and "Glee" actress Jane Lynch. It was hysterical and can be viewed here (WARNING: adult language).
