Rob Parker fired: Robert Griffin III comments cost ESPN commentator his job

rob-parker-fired-robert-griffin-iii-espn.jpgESPN commentator Rob Parker has been fired while serving a 30-day suspension for comments he made on "First Take" about Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III on December 13. NBC Sports reports Parker came under fire when he questioned on air if RGIII is a "cornball brother" due to being engaged to a white woman.

The video, embedded below, shows Parker stating that RGIII is only "kind of black" and not "down with the cause" before comparing him to Tiger Woods. When asked by the host about RGIII's braids Parker points out that braids are more urban and he'd expect a more clean cut look. "You're a brother if you've got braids on," Parker said. When the hosts then ask sports journalist Stephen A. Smith for his thoughts, he seems flabbergasted.

After making the remarks ESPN suspended Parker for 30 days. However, today ESPN released a statement saying, "Rob Parker's contract expired at year end. Evaluating our needs and his work, including his recent RGIII comments, we decided not to renew."

Parker claims ESPN knew what he was going to say before he went on the air. ESPN re-aired the comments later in the day on "Best of First Take," but later apologized after receiving public criticism.
