Robert Pattinson bashes 'Twilight' fans who act obsessive

Stephenie Meyer isn't the only one who needs some time away from "The Twilight Saga." During a recent conversation with the German edition of Interview magazine, Robert Pattinson has some not-so-nice things to say about "Twilight" fans.

"What's really weird about 'Twilight' fans is that they're not really teenagers. Most of them are older. 'Twilight' has its own fan culture that existed from day one. And in an intense way that didn't exist before," Pattinson is quoted by Us Weeklyas saying. "Sometimes I ask myself what these masses of people do the whole day. They sit in front of their computers and comment on anything having even remotely to do with 'Twilight.'"

As for the "fat celebrity blogger" who came up with his nickname "RPattz," Pattinson admits, "I'd like to strangle [him]."

Of course, there's always a chance that Pattinson's interview was mistranslated or taken out of context, and that he didn't intend these comments to come off as harsh as they have. If not, this is a bad case of biting the hand that feeds. But Meyer also admitted in a recent interview and then again on her website that she's a bit exhausted with the cultural phenomenon "Twilight" has become -- and the backlash that comes with it.

"When I speak of 'Twilight' becoming a negative place for me, it is entirely that near-omnipresent 'Twilight' antipathy that I am speaking of," Meyer writes on her website. "Please, never think I don't appreciate the people who read, watch, and love 'Twilight.' I am grateful for your existence every single day. Thanks for the most amazing decade!" Meyer writes.
