Ryan Jenkins charged in Jasmine Fiore's murder

Ryanjenkins_290 Ryan Alexander Jenkins has gone from a guy on a VH1 reality show to "person of interest" in a murder investigation to the person charged with the crime.

Prosecutors in Orange County, Calif., on Thursday (Aug. 20) filed a murder charge against Jenkins in the killing of model Jasmine Fiore. He now the subject of a manhunt around the U.S.-Canada border.

At a news conference Thursday afternoon, officials with the Buena Park Police Department -- the city where Fiore's body was found -- and the U.S. Marshals Service said they believed Jenkins had fled to Canada. They also said they had recovered one of the vehicles Jenkins was believed to have used -- a BMW SUV -- along with an empty boat trailer in the town of Blaine, Wash. They believe Jenkins may have crossed the border on foot from there.

Jenkins was a contestant on VH1's show "Megan Wants a Millionaire," in which former "Beauty and the Geek" and "Rock of Love" contestant Megan Hauserman looked for love among a pool of self-proclaimed millionaires. As the investigation focused on Jenkins, VH1 pulled the show from its schedule and removed it from its web site, save for a small statement that passed off responsibility for the series to its producer, 51 Minds.

For its part, 51 Minds has released a statement saying it 51 Minds "was not aware" of Jenkins' record -- which includes a 2007 conviction for assault in Canada.

"Obviously, if the company had been given a full picture of his background, he would never have been allowed on the show," the statement reads. "The company did have in place what it thought was a thorough vetting process that involved complete background checks by an outside company for all contestants on its shows. Clearly, the process did not work properly in this case."

Sources close to Zap2it have also said Jenkins, who was also slated to appear on the next edition of VH1/51 Minds' "I Love Money," went to the 51 Minds offices earlier this week seeking a sizable amount of cash. He went away emptyhanded.

Jenkins and Fiore met in Las Vegas in March (after the filming of "Megan Wants a Millionaire") and married soon after, the AP reports. The marriage lasted only a few weeks before Fiore had it annulled. Jenkins was charged with a misdemeanor count of domestic violence in June in Nevada for allegedly hitting Fiore in the arm.

An "I Love Money" source says during filming of the show Jenkins was overheard making repeated calls to Fiore, with the conversations often becoming heated.
