Sarah Palin kinda sorta backs Newt Gingrich

Sarah-Palin.jpgSarah Palin is backing Newt Gingrich for the GOP nomination ... kinda. The former Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate sort of endorsed him ahead of the South Carolina primary, saying that if she were a South Carolinian, she would "vote for Newt." Sounds like an endorsement to us.

On Sunday night, she blasted the U.S. political establishment, including the Republican party establishment, for trying to "crucify" Mr. Gingrich, saying, "Ya know you gotta rage against the machine, at this point in order to defend our Republic and save what is good and secure and prosperous about our nation, we need somebody who is engaged in sudden and relentless reform and isn't afraid to shake it up. Shake up that establishment. So, if for no other reason than to rage against the machine, vote for Newt, annoy a liberal. Vote Newt. Keep this vetting process going, keep the debate going," she told Fox News. We wonder what the band "Rage Against the Machine" thinks about this.

But on issue of an actual endorsement of Mr. Gingrich, Palin back-peddled, saying she'd "continue to say good things about every GOP candidate, because anybody's gonna be better than Obama."

Palin is the subject of "Game Change," the HBO special that tells the story of the 2008 presidential race of Senator John McCain ( Ed Harris) and running mate Palin ( Julianne Moore).
