'Saturday Night Live' officially adds Mike O'Brien, Brooks Wheelan and more new cast members
This comes a few weeks after rumors began that four of those members -- Bennett, Milhiser, Mooney and Wells -- would be the new additions after the recent departures of Kristen Wiig, Bill Hader, Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis.
"SNL" has also announced who will be co-anchoring Weekend Update with Seth Meyers. The co-anchor chair, empty since Amy Poehler's departure several years ago, will be filled by Cecily Strong. She may be working toward handling the desk solo as Meyers transitions to hosting "Late Night," but creator Lorne Michaels says he'd like it if Meyers would stay on as Weekend Update anchor even after he moves to "Late Night."
This is one of the biggest overhauls of an "SNL" cast in its history -- not quite as big as the mid-1990s changing of the guard that saw Phil Hartman, Melanie Hutsell, Rob Schneider, Julia Sweeney, Mike Myers, Ellen Cleghorne, Chris Farley, Kevin Nealon and Adam Sandler all leave the show in the span of about two years -- but still fairly sizeable, with a lot of new faces set to take on big roles.
The season premiere is set for Sept. 28 with former head writer and cast member Tina Fey hosting, then Miley Cyrus pulling double duty on Oct. 5. Will you be tuning in?
