'Scream' pilot picked up at MTV: Wes Craven may direct

scream-wes-craven-kevin-williamson-mtv.jpgIt's official -- MTV has ordered a pilot based on the "Scream" film series made famous by director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson. From MTV and Dimension Films, the pilot is set to be a one-hour drama that revives and reinvents the story of horror movie-obsessed teens who find themselves targeted by a ruthless serial killer in an iconic mask.

"Scream" would serve as a potential companion to the network's successful "Teen Wolf" series, also based on a film series. According to reports, Craven is in talks to potentially direct the pilot. Craven hasn't directed a television episode since 1992, and he garnered acclaim as the director of several "Twilight Zone" episodes in the mid-1980s.

Williamson, on the other hand, is not involved with the TV show -- he's a little busy with his new serial killers over on FOX's "The Following," which ends with a finale this Monday night.

Should MTV's "Scream" pilot go to series, it would likely debut in Summer 2014.
