Sean Hayes and 'Better Off Ted's' creator team up for an NBC pilot

The former "Will & Grace" star has guested on the network's comedy "Up All Night" this season and will have a recurring part on "Smash" when it returns in February. He's an executive producer of "Grimm," and earlier this week, NBC bought a game show he's producing.

Now, he's closed a deal to star in and executive produce a comedy pilot for the network. The show comes from "Better Off Ted" creator Victor Fresco and centers on a guy whose 14-year-old daughter has just moved in with him, TV Guide reports. The two have to figure out how to live with one another, while at the same time, Hayes' character is dealing with a mercurial new boss at his job.

That sounds a little bit like the inverse of "Better Off Ted," which was primarily a workplace comedy but whose main character was also raising a daughter by himself.

Hayes is one of several big names, either in front of or behind the camera, who has an NBC comedy in development for next season. The network has already picked up a series starring Michael J. Fox and is developing shows from Anne Heche, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay and Seth and Josh Meyers, among others.
