Selena Gomez won't be performing in Russia any time soon. She has been denied entrance to the country for her pre-scheduled shows as part of an effort to tighten restrictions on artists who support gay rights.

Russia recently approved a controversial law that makes it illegal to spread "propaganda for non-traditional sexual relations" to minors, under threat of steep fines. Gomez was denied her request for a visa because she was deemed too pro-gay rights.

The Moscow Times, via Gossip Cop, reports that Russian authorities are making it more difficult for foreign musicians to enter the company after Lady Gaga and Madonna have openly advocated LGBT equality.

Gomez was scheduled to perform in St. Petersberg on Sept. 23 and Moscow on Sept. 25. She has not yet publicly commented on not being allowed into Russia.
