"Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch is heading into a war zone with the upcoming film, "Blood Mountain."

A thriller written by Jonathan W. Stokes and John Romano, directed by Sergei Bodrov, "Blood Mountain" follows two enemies trekking to safety against nearly impossible odds. In the film a private military contractor survives an enemy attack only to find himself alone in hostile territory. The man must then escort a prisoner -- the world's most-wanted terrorist -- out of the war zone.

Although Cumberbatch will play one of the lead roles, it is currently unclear whether that means the actor will play the contractor or the terrorist. Either role seems like it could be incredible in the "Star Trek into Darkness" actor's hands.

"Blood Mountain" plans to begin production in April in Morocco.
